About this Event

Janette King

Janette King is a producer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and DJ. Her unique sound blends together soulful vocals, upbeat production style, and honest lyrics to create a truly captivating listening experience. Through the prism of house, alternative R&B and pop, the Caribbean-Canadian artist processes the complexities of loss on her debut album, What We Lost, released via Hot Tramp Records. The album received acclaim from among others, Complex UK, Bandcamp Daily, Hypebeast, KEXP, and Consequence of Sound, while also charting North American radio and landing top Spotify & Apple playlists. King’s debut album presents a wise-beyond-its-years maturity, arriving as something a little more experienced than the title “debut album” would normally suggest. It’s a statement from Janette King that, in a similar way to contemporaries such as Victoria Monét and Snoh Aalegra, fuses deeply personal assessments of life with glass-half-full soundscapes, establishing King as one of Canada’s surest new voices.

The Chapel

Located in a recently restored heritage building (St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church), The Chapel is an intimate space perfect for happy hour, live music, poetry readings, and small gatherings.

On the corner of Nelson and Burrard, we're right in the heart of Downtown and the West End. Look for the glowing pink doors behind the 2/44 bus stop on Burrard St.

This spring we're hosting live music, pop-up, happy hours on select Fridays. Join us for wine, beer, and light snacks after work or before heading out for the night!

Doors open at 6:00pm, with live music starting at 6:30pm. Last call around 9pm.

This event is being held on the stolen, ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Skxwú7mesh-ulh, and Tsleil-Waututh nations. As we live and organize space as settlers on these lands, we have an obligation to continuously work to repair harms perpetrated upon Indigenous communities, presently and historically.

Oppressive attitudes and behaviour -- including but not limited to misogyny, transphobia, racism, fatphobia, cultural appropriation and ableism -- are not welcome here - this is a brave West End space.

Accessibility:

There are 16 steps to the main entrance and an accessible entrance on Nelson St. (please note if this is needed in ticket add ons). The washroom is single-stall, all-gender, with additional gendered washrooms as needed.
