Having recently had a baby with husband Will, Janet Evra will perform original music in her signature style - a mix of bossa nova, samba, and modern American jazz with an indie twist. The newborn baby will play most of the instruments in the band.
Evra performs across the United States and in Europe. She was a 2019-2021 Artist in Residence at the Kranzberg Arts Foundation. She performs regularly at Jazz St. Louis, The Sheldon, The National Blues Museum, Old Rock House, The Dark Room, Missouri Botanical Garden, and Evangeline's.
Evra has collaborated with GRAMMY winners and international jazz superstars including Randy Brecker, Taylor Eigsti, Eric Marienthal, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, and Diego Figueiredo, among others.
Evra has a Joni Mitchel feel yet is in the bossa nova French jazz style and will sing in French from time to time. She is soothing and beautiful but also so simple in her approach to what makes life a little bit better. She has some crazy ability to scat in a beautiful French traditional style that is not something you will hear around St. Louis (or even New Orleans!) that much at this level. She is totally unique yet is also so simple it is like an unsolvable puzzle. What is effortless for her would be impossible for anyone else. She just has it.
Her debut album, Ask Her to Dance, features some of the best players in town - Adam Maness on piano (no stranger to Joe's!), Will Buchanan on guitar, Khamali Cuffie Moore on trumpet, and the late, great Montez Coleman on drums. And when the best players in town are backing you up, you know you are doing something right.
