On Dec. 8, the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency voted to DEFER the rezoning request to build a 12-story building a few feet behind the Basilica that would overshadow our Basilica and would threaten the church's structural integrity. Fr. Carter, engineer James Poston, and others gave opposing comments at the meeting. The RPA voted to defer the rezoning request for 30 days so that the developer can submit a parking study. The next public hearing will be Monday, Jan. 12, 2026 at 1pm at the Hamilton County Courthouse, 625 Georgia Ave., 4th Floor, Room 402.
