Settle in for a night of lush modern Jazz as the James Sewell Quintet presents a program of original instrumental music, as well as classics by the stalwarts of the saxophone. Inspired by Jazz greats Kenny Garrett and Ben Wendel, amongst others, the JSQ's music blends complexity with melodicism and expression, and stretches the definitions of what Jazz can be.Experienced in everything from hip hop to Jazz, James fronts the horn-heavy outfit "Brass Party," which he writes and arranges music for. Brass Party opened for soul greats the "Hot 8 Brass Band" at the 2023 Perth International Jazz Festival, and released their debut EP in 2024. James is in demand as a session musician, and has featured with local legends such as FLEWNT, Your Girl Pho, Demon Days and Downsyde.
