JAMES MONTGOMERY
In the 70’s Boston’s music underground continued to bubble up. It started with such bands in the late 60’s as the Beacon Street Union and Ultimate Spinach, as well as those who came in the 70’s such as Aerosmith, J. Geils Band, the Cars and the signature classic rock band Boston. In this mix came an artist who arrived in town and became one of the solidifying members of Boston’s music community, James Montgomery.
James was, and remains, a one-man dervish capable of grabbing an audience, controlling it and giving it a night to remember.
Montgomery came to town, from his home in Michigan, to get an education and play a little music. He presented a fresh image, a powerful sound, great backing musicians and a “party ‘til you drop” stage persona.
Though some contemporaries have long ago broken up, been inducted into, or nominated for the Rock and Roll HOF, James continues to be right where he belongs and relishes in it. Montgomery will never be noted as a trendy musician, but one who developed a style and has ridden it for over 50 years to a wonderful career. Even those contemporaries who retired or became part of Boston’s legendary rock royalty come running for a chance to share the stage with James.
No matter who the musician may be, Montgomery always find a way to build them into his show and create a truly unique event. So now that these 70’s bands are starting to retire, Montgomery is just starting to heat up.

BARRENCE WHITFIELD
An American soul and R&B vocalist, best known as the frontman for Barrence Whitfield & the Savages, at Boston University where his singing was heard by musician Peter Greenberg of The Lyres began performing with Greenberg and members of his band as Barrence Whitfield & the Savages.
The band garnered a strong reputation for explosive stage performances, described as "raucous and rough, in high gear from the moment they hit the stage." Whitfield himself was described as "a soul screamer in the spirit of Little Richard and Wilson Pickett. Their music heard by English DJ Andy Kershaw, who brought them to the UK for a tour.
He's toured widely in Europe, and won supporting slots on US tours with artists such as Bo Diddley, Tina Turner, George Thorogood, Robert Cray, and Solomon Burke. Back home Whitfield earned seven Boston Music Awards.
He later began working with a New Hampshire-based jump blues and rockabilly octet, The Movers. Continuing to perform in the UK and Europe, Whitfield just completed an extended 2023 tour of Europe.
