James Hall and Digna Ojito: Tribute to Jobim
About this Event
James Hall and Digna Ojito return to the Live Oak Center on Friday, July 24th to pay tribute to bossa nova composer and legend Antonio Carlos Jobim. He wrote the most famous Brazilian songs of all time including "Girl from Ipanema", "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars", and "One Note Samba". The quartet - including Ojito, Hall, Charlie Silva, and Greg Parnell - will perform a setlist of all of Jobim's works with lyrics in both English and Portuguese. There's no admission charge, and doors open at 6:45 PM.
Digna Ojito is a mezzo-soprano jazz and Latin jazz vocalist whose sound blends classical refinement with the warmth of Latin tradition. Classically trained and currently a vocal performance student at Rollins College, she has performed with the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Sir John Rutter, and on an international tour of Italy's historic basilicas. Digna was raised on boleros, salsa, and Latin jazz through her Mexican and Cuban heritage.
James Hall is a pianist, vibraphone player, and composer based in New Smyrna Beach. In his hometown of Pleasanton, California, he performed with numerous jazz musicians including Matt Finders, Andrew Speight, Anton Schwartz, Michael Marcus, Roger Glenn, and Erik Jekabson. Upon moving to Florida in 2019, he has performed with a wide range of jazz musicians including Antonio Escapa, Jeff Rupert, Scott Dickinson, the Orlando Jazz Orchestra, Tom Dietz, and Bobby Koelble, just to name a few, in the straight-ahead jazz and Latin spheres.
