Jamaican Dandelion Herbal Coffee Workshop
About this Event
Jamaican Dandelion Herbal Coffee Workshop: Celebrate Caribbean Heritage Month at Mack's Farm
Discover the herbal, caffeine-free ritual of Jamaican Dandelion from our farm to your cup! Join us for a unique, hands-on cultural experience at Mack's Farm in Davie, FL. In celebration of Caribbean Heritage Month, we are honoring Jamaica’s deep-rooted herbal traditions by gathering to master the art of making authentic Jamaican Dandelion Coffee!
This is more than a workshop; it is an deeply-rooted journey of wisdom, wellness, connection, and cultural preservation.
🌿 The Experience
Stepping onto the lush, tropical grounds of Mack's Farm, you will participate in the entire traditional preparation process from scratch:
- Parch: Learn the traditional method of dry-roasting ("parching") the seeds over an open flame until the seeds reach a deep, rich aroma.
- Pound: Hand-pound the roasted seeds using a mortar and pestle and grinder into a powerful, fine herbal blend.
- Tasting Ceremony: Sip and savor the rich, robust, and nutty flavors of freshly brewed wild coffee, with farm-fresh coconut milk, and culinary spices authentically prepared.
- Cultural and Herbal Wisdom: Learn the deeply rooted heritage and many benefits of the Jamaican Dandelion from third-generation Jamaican farmer and farm owner Barbara McKenzie, and herbalist and wellness educator Shawntrell Smith
✨ Medicinal Benefits (Without the Jitters!)
Traditional regular coffee often leads to mid-day crashes and caffeine jitters. Jamaican Dandelion (Senna occidentalis) is completely caffeine-free and historically revered as a natural superfood and tonic supporting eye health, digestion, energy levels, and so much more!

ABOUT THE ORGANIZER
Mack’s Farm is a Jamaican family-run, community-centered organic farm in Davie, Florida committed to regenerative agriculture, food sovereignty, advancing community wellness, and the preservation of cultural heritage. Founded by Farmer Barbara McKenzie, a third-generation grower, it stands as the only fully functioning production farm owned and operated by a Black woman in South Florida.
More than a market, it is a vital cultural sanctuary and a welcoming "home away from home" for South Florida’s diverse communities across the Diaspora. Having successfully rebuilt after developer displacement, the thriving operation connects the local community directly to sustainable food systems. The farm offers exceptional tropical produce, native culturally meaningful foods, and herbs cultivated to nourish the community. Through hands-on programming rooted in food sovereignty, holistic wellness, and traditional wisdom, Mack's Farm empowers people to heal, learn, and restore their collective connection to the soil.
