Johnstown Arts & Music will present veteran country and rockabilly artist Marty Wendell and his touring band, with singer-songwriter Lucas Garrett opening the show. Marty Wendell has been making music for 60 years. He grew up in a time when radio stations played many genres of music but the music that impacted him the most came from the artists who recorded for Sun Records and gave birth to Rock and Roll. He also developed a love of Country Music as well. Throughout his career
he has covered a wide variety of songs and has written many of the songs that he has recorded. His concerts pull together Roots, Americana and Rockabilly influences. In the mid 60’s he also played in Greenwich Village coffeehouses where people were hungry for original songs. He continued to develop his songwriting craft and began his recording career in New York City. He has recorded 18 albums and will have new releases in 2024 including an Early Years
compilation. He has worked with some of the biggest names in the music business.
Opening act Lucas Garrett has played professionally for over ten years. Incorporating his idiosyncratic vocal stylings with an unusual blend of progressive rock, folk, new wave, and indie, Lucas has created a unique sound that audiences enjoy time and time again. Garrett, armed with a "rumbling baritone," and songs that are "sneaky with unexpected turns and inventive instrumentation," (Amy Biancolli, Times Union, 2019), has found people of all ages enjoying his music; on and off the stage.
The concert will be free to attend and is open to all. Guests are urged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. In the event of rain, the concert will take place inside St. John's Episcopal Church, which is adjacent to the park, on the corner of North Market and Church streets.
