Jam at OneForty
About this Event
Currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music, British-Caribbean oboist Anton Brown explores classical music through different styles of jazz and other black forms of music, including gospel.
Classically trained since 2014, he has been influenced both by classical composers (especially Tchaikovsky) and jazz singers (including Samara Joy, Ella Fitzgerald and Esperanza Spalding).
His love for jazz blossomed after joining Tomorrow’s Warriors and being surrounded by his colleagues at the Academy.
The Anton Brown quartet debuted in 2025 at the London Transport Museum as part of the museum’s new scheme “Transported by Culture” and, since then, has been a part of the Royal Academy of Music’s Students Create Festival 2026.
The quartet discovers new sound worlds by having an oboe as a frontline instrument through original compositions, standards and arrangements of classical pieces.
Anton Brown - oboe / cor anglais
