Atlas INTERSECTIONS Festival- MOVEMENTHalo-Halo: Mixed-Mixed is about two individuals honoring each of their experiences of being mixed-race: all of their confusion, joy, excitement, struggle, and everything in between. Halo-Halo (pronounced hah-lo hah-lo) is a Philippine dessert that directly translates to “mix-mix” in Tagalog. It is a combination of sweet toppings added to evaporated milk and crushed ice. In the same way that there are lots of variations on how to make halo-halo, there are lots of ways to be mixed-race when it comes to heritage and experience. We are making an honest piece about being mixed-race, and we intend to investigate the many complicated layers of our mixed-race lives. We don’t want to create one set definition of “what it means to be mixed-race;” We only aim to shine a light on our experiences in the hope that it will inspire others to be as honest and compassionate toward their mixed-race experiences.
