About this Event
Join us on September 24th for the second installment in Cinemancers, Bibliomancers’ new monthly film club! For their September installment, Cinemancers' Astraleyez has selected Jacques Demy’s (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) magical musical fantasy comedy DONKEY SKIN (1970)! Starring the enchanting Catherine Deneuve and Jean Marais, with music and songs by Michel Legrand, the film was Demy’s most successful film in France and is now considered a cult classic!
Janus Films Synopsis:
In this lovingly crafted, wildly eccentric adaptation of a classic French fairy tale, Jacques Demy casts Catherine Deneuve as a princess who must go into hiding as a scullery maid in order to fend off an unwanted marriage proposal—from her own father, the king (Jean Marais). A topsy-turvy riches-to-rags fable with songs by Michel Legrand, Donkey Skin creates a tactile fantasy world that’s perched on the border between the earnest and the satiric, and features Delphine Seyrig in a delicious supporting role as a fashionable fairy godmother.
Join us for this night of whimsy and wonder and a chance to catch Demy’s delicious pop fantasy confection DONKEY SKIN on the big screen!
Special thanks to Brian Belovarac of Janus Films

ABOUT BIBLIOMANCERS
Bibliomancers is a small press created and owned by the Los Angeles based occult collage artist Astraleyez. Working with his longtime friend & partner in crime, curator, designer & concept artist Eric Nordhauser they have created a series of esoteric themed books documenting their obsessions.
Bibliomancy is the practice of divination through books by allowing a seemingly randomly chosen passage the seeker can apply its wisdom or symbolic meaning to provide guidance. Astraleyes has been collecting books using bibliomancy for almost 30 years.
