About this Event
How do you get to the main stage at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival? Practice, practice, practice! Further your jazz education and refine your chops at this FREE masters class clinic featuring some of the very same greats you’ll find on stage at this year’s festival. Aspiring and accomplished jazz musicians of all ages are invited to learn and grow their skills in an intimate setting at none other than Jacksonville’s historic Ritz Theatre and Museum and a new addition this year, Douglas Anderson School of the Arts! Space is limited for this unique and personal experience so register today!

When Grammy-nominated Mack Avenue recording artist, composer, educator, and bandleader Tia Fuller picks up her saxophone, something amazing happens. Fulfilling a demanding schedule as both a busy touring, recording artist and a full-time professor at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Her touring accolades include being selected to be a member of the Beyonce’s All-Female band; where she appeared on the Today Show, Good Morning America, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Ellen Show, The Grammy’s, World Music Awards, and many others.

GIANCARLO ANDERSON (Member of Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band) – Percussion: Saturday, October 2nd, 10:00 A.M. at the Ritz Theatre and Museum - 175 AVAILABLE SLOTS
Multi-faceted percussionist, Giancarlo Anderson, was born in Colón Panama. He has over twenty-five years of experience as a performer in different genres of music with emphasis in Latin and other world music genres. His passion for the drums then led him to the United States, specifically to New York City. Anderson continued his musical education at the world-renowned Boys Harbor Conservatory for The Performing Arts, as well as private instruction with some of the most well-known percussionists. His soulful playing and passion for his instrument then led immediately to gigs with The Boys Harbor Big Band, Grupo Latin Vibe, the Grammy nominated Manhattan School Of Music Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, and off-Broadway musicals. Giancarlo has also played at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Jazz At Lincoln Center among others
He is currently a member of the multi-Grammy winning Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band.

FRANCISCO TORRES (Member of Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band) – Trombone / Horns: Saturday, October 2nd, 11:15 A.M. at the Ritz Theatre and Museum - 175 AVAILABLE SLOTS
Francisco Torres is a well-respected trombonist, bass trombonist, educator, composer and arranger who hails from the town of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. Born in 1974, Francisco didn’t start his musical training until 15 years old, playing alto saxophone then switching to tuba and euphonium. For 8 seasons he was first call sub with the Dancing With the Stars Orchestra, and has appeared with different artists on the Tonight Show, Saturday Night Live, the Late Late Show, Jimmy Kimmel, American Music Awards, The Grammys and Latin Grammys. He can be heard as trombonist, bass trombonist and valve trombonist on the Pixar films “Coco” and “Incredibles 2”. Some of his most recent films credits are “Little”, “Tagged”, “Secret Life of Pets”, “Ice Age 4”, “Penguins of Madagascar”, and “Straight Out of Compton”. On TV he can be heard on “The Simpsons”, “Family Guy’, “American Dad”, “Penny Dreadful”, “Elena of Avalor”, “Tangled”, “Sofia The First”, and “The Get Down”.
He has served as musical director, producer and arranger for the Grammy winning percussionist Poncho Sanchez for 15 years.

PLEASE NOTE: For clinics located at the Ritz Theatre and Museum, only the first 20 participants for each session will be able to bring their own instrument due to limited capacity. Parents with children attending the clinic are welcome to enjoy the museums amenities while they await.
Additionally, Tia Fuller’s clinic will have a limit of 10 instruments.
