Jackie is an authentic & enchanting singer of English traditional songs, & a fine musician & song-writer. A central figure in English traditional music, Jackie is one of the country’s best loved folk performers & has collaborated with many others, including The Imagined Village. Her eighth solo studio album, Gracious Wings, took flight in September 2022, receiving acclaim from the music press within & beyond the folk genre. Jackie is an experienced teacher & music therapist.
The workshop will cover a range of lesser-known, beautiful traditional tunes from different parts of England. Tunes will be approached with a view to creating a good & even tone, ornamentation, and bowing technique. Some music will be sent out in advance.

11.00 Waltzes and airs: How to create a rich tone and vibrato through technique and the use of open strings, through the playing of slower tunes.

13.30 Jigs & reels: a look at bowing patterns to achieve a rhythmical feel.

15.15 Tunes in different time signatures: exploring English tunes with a different bowing emphasis.
