About this Event

In 1897, Isabella Bird was engaged to lecture on Western China at the Royal Geographical Society. Jacki Hill-Murphy, author of The Life and Travels of Isabella Bird, recreates part of this lecture, in costume, setting it in the context of the rest of Isabella’s intrepid travels. Jacki has ventured to some of the most inhospitable places on Earth to recreate the journeys of daring women adventurers from the past. She talks about the similar experiences she had when recreating Isabella’s 150-mile trek through Ladakh: crossing the Digar La, finding the house where Isabella stayed, and having tea with the King of Ladakh.

Tickets are available through Eventbrite or on the door; RSGS Members and students are entitled to free entry on the door - all subject to availability.
