About this Event
The award-winning Show People Podcast with Andrew Keates continues its live monthly residency at The Two Brewers with one of the most in-demand voices in British theatre right now, Jack Holden.Terms and Conditions
Fresh from performing to sell-out audiences in KENREX at The Other Palace, Jack joins us for a special live recording and a rare, in-depth conversation about the work, the craft, and the moments that shape a career.
Jack trained as an actor at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and has participated in the Royal Court Young Writers Programme and the Channel 4 Screenwriting Course. He was recently on attachment at the National Theatre Studio and was selected for the Brit List 2025.
Jack’s debut play Cruise, a kaleidoscopic musical odyssey through Soho and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, premiered at the Duchess Theatre in Summer 2021 to widespread critical acclaim and was nominated for the Olivier Award for Best New Play 2022. Since then, Cruise has had multiple sold-out runs and an expanding international life, including an award-winning season in Australia.
His follow-up play, KENREX: A True Crime Thriller, co-written with director Ed Stambollouian, opened to rave reviews at Sheffield Theatres, sold out at Southwark Playhouse, and returned for another sell-out run at The Other Palace in Winter 2025/26. Jack’s performance in KENREX won him the UK Theatre Award for Best Performer in a Play.
He also adapted Alan Hollinghurst’s Booker Prize-winning novel The Line of Beauty for the Almeida Theatre. Directed by Michael Grandage, the production played to sell-out audiences in October and November 2025.
As an actor, Jack’s stage work includes Albert Narracott in War Horse (National Theatre and West End), Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (RSC), Beverly Goodaway in Ink (Almeida and West End), Captain Greville in The Madness of George III, Joe Bonham in Johnny Got His Gun, plus appearances in The Shoemaker’s Holiday and Oppenheimer (RSC) and My Cousin Rachel (Theatre Royal Bath). On television he has appeared as Adam in Marriage (BBC One), Kevin Barnes in Ten Percent (Amazon), Will Anderson in Traitors (Channel 4), and roles in Carnage (BBC), Outlander, and Lewis. His film work includes Journey’s End, The Levelling, and the short film The Rev.
Alongside performing, Jack is developing stage and screen projects with Michael Grandage Company, Working Title, Independent Entertainment, World Productions and MMXX. He has also produced award-winning short films, and in January 2025 made his debut as a writer-director with the short film Safari, produced by My Accomplice, as they develop his debut feature film, Man Made
Expect an honest, open exploration of Jack’s journey across acting, writing, and making original work, from the creative leaps that led to Cruise, to the pressure and adrenaline of holding an audience in the palm of your hand in KENREX, to what it takes to keep building a life in theatre when the stakes get bigger.
