Opening: 1 November 2025 | 12–3 PM
Unlimited Corporation, Edinburgh
Unlimited Corporation is pleased to present two concurrent exhibitions: You Are Still on Mute, a new body of paintings by Jack Dunnett, and A Ghost Looking Back Over Its Shoulder, a collection of works by Eddie Summerton drawn from his archive.
Jack Dunnett – You Are Still on Mute
In You Are Still on Mute, Dunnett turns to the spaces between words, gestures, and memories. The works dwell in pauses—moments that hover between clarity and uncertainty, presence and disappearance. Familiar figures and objects surface briefly before dissolving back into their surroundings, like recollections tested for accuracy.
Dunnett’s works are modest in scale, with muted washes of colour that let figures and objects hover on the edge of recognition before slipping back into abstraction. Interiors dissolve into fields of tone, gestures remain half-formed, and everyday fragments—hands, doorways, faces—emerge like uncertain memories. This visual language lingers in pauses, capturing the quiet unease of moments that feel both ordinary and estranged.
What begins as a story never quite resolves. Instead, Dunnett lingers on the hesitation, the unfinished edge, the trace of something half-remembered. These paintings invite reflection on how we recognise one another, how we inhabit our days, and how meaning flickers in and out of view.
Eddie Summerton – A Ghost Looking Back Over Its Shoulder
A Ghost Looking Back Over Its Shoulder brings together a collection of Eddie Summerton’s work from the archive celebrating his period as Warden at the Strict Nature Reserve, a position he holds until the end of this year.
The collection embodies his fascination with the representation of nature and natural history, where the improvisation of materials produces work of almost pure misdirection—simultaneously invitational with the skill of hand, yet isolating in the idea-spasm of half-recognised images culled from the after-effect of an ill-fated event in the rural calendar.
Eddie Summerton’s multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, filmmaking, sound, artist’s books, and multiples, as well as curating projects and exhibitions. His work has been exhibited in solo and group shows worldwide, and is held in public collections including the BBC and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
Summerton has received critical acclaim for collaborative projects involving many of Scotland’s leading artists and writers. He currently collaborates with artist Alan Grieve under the name A&E. Summerton is Warden at The Strict Nature Reserve, Lecturer in Contemporary Art Practice at DJCAD, Dundee, a founding member of the band District Nurse, and a member of the Royal Scottish Academy.
