A celebration of John Coltrane's music.
About this Event

This will be a very special evening for celebrating the music of John Coltrane.  The show, a unique performance of one night only, features Andrew Dixon on woodwinds, Dahveed Behroozi on piano, Giulio Cetto on bass and John Hanrahan on drums. Over two extended sets, the group will present a special rendition of John Coltrane's works. The first set offers a traditional celebration of Coltrane's material, with the second set bringing an explorative rendition of John Coltrane's material.

Andrew Dixon

Andrew Dixon is making his mark. An accomplished woodwind performer, composer, and educator, Andrew is not one of those musicians who settles for just playing music on the side. Indeed, Andrew spends all of his time either in the studio, writing and rehearsing new songs, teaching to his vast array of students or on the road performing across the US. He plays at least nine different instruments, including every saxophone, clarinets, and flutes. Andrew has released three CDs of original music, infused with his jazz roots, but ranging far beyond. Influenced from growing up in Chicago, to his travels around the world, he has created a sound that is fresh, unique and sets him apart from the typical jazz fare.

Dahveed Behroozi

Dahveed Behroozi is a San Francisco Bay Area-based musician whose focus is in jazz, classical, and new music. He is an active player both as a leader and sideman in the Bay Area, nationally and also internationally. In 2012, Dahveed released his first record, Games, with the bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Tim Bulkley. Dahveed has performed and recorded with Thomas Morgan, Tyshawn Sorey, Billy Mintz, Dayna Stephens, Loren Stillman and Dan Weiss, just to name a few. Dahveed is also an active educator and serves on the faculty of Gavilan College and San Jose State University.

Giulio Xavier Cetto

Giulio Xavier Cetto is an acoustic and electric bassist currently playing in California. For five years, Giulio contributed to the Stockton jazz community by organizing weekly performances and jam sessions. Cetto is an alum of UPacific's Summer Jazz Colony. Among his influences are John Coltrane, Jaco Pastorius, Ron Carter and Christian McBride.

John Hanrahan

A veteran of the Chicago music scene, drummer/singer John Hanrahan has made a strong and versatile impression in jam bands throughout the country as well as the project with his quartet performing and releasing in 2016, John Coltrane's A Love Supreme, widely considered one of the greatest jazz recordings of all time. Currently the John Hanrahan Quartet has been performing a variety of tributes around the country to great jazz musicians of the 60's, including John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, and Miles Davis projects. The band was showcased in the SF Bay Area at SFJAZZ, at Yoshi's, Kuumbwa Jazz Center, in Chicago at The Jazz Showcase and at Rudy’s Jazz Club in Nashville. John Hanrahan’s various ensembles have been playing together in the US and around the globe for over 20 years. Jazz fans will also recognize the John Hanrahan Quartet from their breakout performance at the 2014 Monterey Jazz Festival, where they paid tribute to Coltrane's seminal 1965 recording.
