About this Event
"J. Franklin Jameson and the American Revolution on the Eve of the 250th" will convene leading scholars of the American Revolution to reconsider the principal scholarly work of the Revolution's 1926 sesquicentennial commemoration, J. Franklin Jameson's The American Revolution Considered as a Social Movement. In panels organized around the themes of Jameson’s four chapters (the Revolution’s consequences for the status of persons, land, industry and commerce, and thought and feeling), presenters will explore the lasting significance of Jameson's work and take stock of how the last century of scholarship has built upon his questions and arguments.
This symposium will take place in the Montpelier Room in the Madison Building of the Library of Congress on November 21, 2025. A full description and program can be found at the event's official webpage, here. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Registration is free and open to the public. Registrants will receive pre-circulated papers drafted by each presenter, which should be reviewed by all attendees prior to the event.
Sponsored by: The John W. Kluge Center at the Library of Congress, The McNeil Center for Early American Studies, The Omohundro Institute for Early American History and Culture, and Princeton University's Department of History.
