About this Event
Join us for an evening that doesn't shy away from the hard stuff – racism, ableism, all the -isms – while celebrating the beautiful depths of Whitney's entire selfhood and exploring what we, as a community, can do.
About the Project
"It's Whitney, B*tch" is an ongoing photo book project by Belgian-Congolese storyteller Louise Min, created with and about her dear friend Whitney Mitchell – a young Black woman who lost all four limbs at 18 and whose husband was murdered during the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests in Austin, TX.
Join us for one of the first public events as we work toward publishing the book and getting Whitney's story into the world.

Whitney's Story
Whitney grew up wanting to be a dancer, but at barely 18, Whitney lost all four limbs. Almost six years ago, her husband Garrett Foster was murdered during the Black Lives Matter protests in Austin. Whitney got to know loss in its most gruesome forms from far too young an age - and learned how you can be hypervisible and constantly reduced at the same time.
It’s Whitney, B*tch
Whitney and Louise connected after Garrett was killed. Years of marathon conversations, photo sessions, and dark humor later, they're reclaiming Whitney's story together.
In a time when the stories and experiences of people of color continue to face erasure, sharing narratives like Whitney's is more essential than ever.
Though Whitney won't be joining us physically, her voice and vision shape the entire evening – from the photographs to the music.
It's Whitney, B*tch is supported by the city of Austin
