Just as the title of the event suggests this day is just for Cobs, native ponies and their part breds. On Sunday 28th December let’s bring Wakefield RDA alive with the arena full of these beautiful and talented equines.
The day will be in many parts to allow you to do as much or as little as you like with (or without) your horse.
With over 30 years of experience training Welsh Cobs, Jo Wainwright also a BD List 3 Dressage Judge, Rider and Trainer, is here to help you get the best out of your partnership with your horse, whether for the show ring, pleasure riding, the dressage arena or a bit of it all.
You are encouraged to come along to enjoy the day with like minded riders, owners and friends to talk all things cob, Irish cob, show cob, gypsy cob, Welsh cob or the Welsh pony of cob type, not forgetting all things native pony from Shetland, Dales, Fells, Highland, New Forest to Connemara with our Dartmoor and Exmoor ponies too.
All are welcome plus their part bred. Future and current breeding stallions also welcome to take part in the day.
There will be a dedicated session just for young horses and unaff competition.
We will also be swapping the Yorkshire teacake for a “Cob” lunch. ( food options will be sent on booking ) all welcome to the lunch.
▪️ Live demo - one hour with a real life Cob showing training with Jo.
This is a pick your own day. Times will be given when all entries are in. Initially please leave the day clear when booking.
▪️In hand - ideal for socialising younger horses aged 1-3 years old. Colts to be wearing disc. Appropriate bridle required on all horses. Groups of up to four horses*. Arena boards/ table / poles could be in the arena and used for experience depending on education of each horse, no instruction given you are responsible for your horses training and arena experience. £20 per horse.
▪️Warm Up Arena Time - 1 hr opportunity to work in the indoor arena as you would in warm up at a competition* this is without any instruction from Jo. Own instructors are not permitted, all horses must be ridden and no lunging. £20 per horse, when booked as a single session, limited multiple session bookings with this choice, see below.
▪️ Live Demo- 1hr showing way of going for the dressage arena with a real life “Cob”. £15 as single session. Below for multiple sessions. Those not wishing to attend but stay at the venue for the duration of the demo will be asked not to access the arena or viewing area during this time.
▪️30min training, working on your horses way of going on the flat with Jo - choice to warm up outside** £35 for single session. Below prices for multiple sessions.
▪️45min training, working on your horses way of going on the flat with Jo - £40 for single session. Below prices for multiple sessions.
▪️Test riding 30min - warm up outdoors** as you would in a competition, come to the indoor arena set up like a competition, ride the test of your choice. Any short arena test up to ad medium. Be judged as in competition. Discuss test. Train to develop more marks. £38 for single session. Below for multiple sessions.
▪️ Pole work just for cobs… 1hr group session with Jo including exercises just for cobs and their types. £20 each when booked as a single session. Below prices for multiple sessions
▪️ The “Cob” lunch and talk. One hour talk on understanding conformation, what are the common training faults, how to work to improve them, what the judge wants to see from your cob in dressage and how to create it. £15 with lunch inc as a single session. Below prices for multiple sessions.
Those choosing to stay over the duration of the talk but not attending will be asked not to use the viewing area for this time.
▪️ Mini Unaff dressage competition- warm up outside, test indoors, judged by BD judge. One class of PYO tests intro-ad med enter up to two tests. Rosettes. If riding two tests different tests to be used or second test Hc. All competition tests will be in a block together so no waiting around for results. BD tack inc gloves compulsory. Casual safe dress. One entry £12 to entries £20 when booked as single session. Below for multiple sessions.
Groom/ rider helper - one rider helper/ groom can attend the lunch or the demo for £10 each £20 for both please book with rider.
Multiple session booking prices below - (must be booked together to get reduced fee) if there is an option you’d like but can’t see on list please get in touch.
Horses will be given suitable breaks between multiple sessions. For off the horse sessions it’s possible you will have time to collect or return your horse between sessions.

By attending in any capacity you are deemed to understand and agree to this, attending at your own risk.
*if up to 6 horses are booked on all 6 will be in together. You may also be in alone or with lesser number.
** if the weather dictates that the outdoor arena prevents use for flooding or freezing warm up will be indoor during the previous lesson.
