Schedule

Location
University of Calgary Child Care West Campus (UCCC) | Calgary, AB
A two-hour workshop in animating objects and storytelling with theatre artist Geneviève Paré
About this Event
During this light-hearted window of exploration, we will visit the principles of puppetry and consider the potential for animation in discarded or forgotten items. We will then move into small groups to build simple performances, where we will examine how to make an object driven story specific and compelling, and the role the audience’s imagination plays in object storytelling. Most importantly, we will have fun.
Geneviève Paré is a multi-disciplinary theatre artist, Co-Founder of Mudfoot Theatre, and a Jim Henson Company puppeteer, based in Treaty Seven Territory. Through a practice of building, shaping, and performing live theatre Geneviève endeavours to invigorate human relationships to self, land and community. Process is a playground in Geneviève’s approach to theatre making, striving for joyful collaboration, productive conflict, and leveled hierarchies. Ecologically sustainable theatre practices are paramount in Geneviève’s work. Outside of the theatre, Geneviève is a youth leader, wilderness guide, and a puppeteer for film and television.
Her recent works include Fraggle Rock (Jim Henson Company), Iniskim (Canadian Academy of Mask and Puppetry), GIANT (Ghost River Theatre), A Christmas Carol (Theatre Calgary), and We Are All Treaty People (Quest Theatre).
