ITI Course: Soft Tissue Management Around Natural Teeth and Dental Implants

This exciting hand on program presented by A/Prof Luke Villata and Dr Rebecca Ellis will discuss the principles and clinical applications of soft tissue grafting to manage dehiscence defects around teeth and implants.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• Diagnosis and classification of soft tissue recession around teeth and implants.

• Biological principles of soft tissue grafting.

• Development and biological applications of enamel matrix derivative.

• Harvesting techniques for connective tissue and free gingival grafts.

• Periosteal release, coronally advanced flaps and suturing techniques.

• Socket graft and soft tissue management.

HANDS ON

• Harvesting CT and free gingival grafts

• Connective tissue graft and coronal flap advancement for root coverage incorporating enamel matrix derivative

• Free gingival graft to increase width of keratinised tissue

INSTRUCTORS:

A/Prof Luke Villata

A/Professor Luke Villata graduated in dentistry from the University of Sydney in 1984. Luke worked in private practice in Hobart, Tasmania, for 2 years before heading to London. He worked in London until 1993 when he moved to Aarhus Denmark to study Periodontics. Luke graduated in 1996 and obtained his specialist registration in NSW in 1997.

Luke has worked in specialist practice since 1997. Luke has also been involved in teaching at the University of Sydney and Charles Sturt University since 1997 and 2010 respectively. Luke is currently chief lecturer of the Diploma in Implant Dentistry course which is run from Charles Sturt University. Luke was granted membership of the Royal Australian Society of Dental Surgeons in 2010. Luke is a member of the Pierre Fauchard academy.

Luke is a member of the Australian Periodontal Society, Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists, European Osteointegration Society, British Society of Periodontology, American Academy of Periodontology, American Academy of Osseointegration and the Pierre Fauchard Academy

Dr Rebecca Ellis

BDS(Distn), DCD(Perio)

Dr Rebecca Ellis graduated top of her class with BDS (Distinction) from the University of Otago, New Zealand 2011. In 2015 Rebecca moved to Melbourne, Australia to complete a threeyear doctoral degree in Periodontology at the University of Melbourne. During her training she was awarded an ITI research grant for preclinical research in implant dentistry. Her research interests include preclinical and clinical research in immediate implant placement and also guided bone regeneration.

Rebecca is a fellow of the ITI, Education delegate for the Australasian section as well as previous co-director of the Auckland CBD and Melbourne University ITI Study Clubs. She is a member of NZDA, ADA, ANZAP & ASP. Rebecca has worked as a specialist Periodontist in full-time private practice at the Institute of Dental Implants and Periodontics in Auckland, New Zealand for the last 5years. She has recently relocated to Sydney and is excited to be a part of the team at Sydney Periodontics and Implant Centre.
