This carnivalesque portrait of provincial Italy during the fascist period satirizes director Federico Fellini’s youth and turns daily life into a circus of social rituals, adolescent desires, male fantasies, and political subterfuge, all set to Nina Rota’s classic, nostalgia-tinged score. Fellini’s most personal film, Amarcord’s dream-like series of vignettes recalls the larger-than-life personalities of the Rimini community. The Academy-Award winning Amarcord remains one of cinema’s enduring treasures.
