Italian Dueling Sabre Intensive

Red Sun Classical Fencing, and its head instructor, Maestro Ryan Mank, is pleased to host an intensive workshop covering the techniques of the Italian Dueling Sabre in the method of the Scuola Magistrale Militare di Roma, as presented in such texts as Sabre Fencing by Salvatore Pecoraro and Carlo Pessina (translated by Christopher Holzman), and The Science of Fencing by Dr. William Gaugler, along with selected techniques from other prominent Maestri such as Luigi Barbasetti. This workshop is recommended primarily for classical fencers, HEMA practitioners, and SCA members who desire to gain a firm foundation in the practice of the Sabre. The workshop will consist of technical and tactical exercises based on the material. The fee to attend this event is $20, payable by cash, check, or PayPal/Venmo. Due to the weapons and techniques being used, and to optimize use of the space, the number of participants will be limited to 24. Please register using the form in the "Tickets" link.
-About the Instructor-
Maestro Ryan Mank is a board-certified Master at Arms, through the Sonoma State University Fencing Masters Certificate Program (SSUFMCP), with over 25 years of classical and historical fencing experience in several styles and weapons. Maestro Mank has provided regular instruction, including usage of the Sabre, at his school Red Sun Classical Fencing, since 2012. Since obtaining his Master’s Diploma in 2022, he has been a regular instructor at the FMCP, the Rapier and Sabre Pedagogy (RASP) seminar in Atlanta GA, and was invited to teach a similar Sabre workshop at the Phoenix Society of Historical Swordsmanship in Phoenix AZ in January 2024.
