MAGASIN 4 PRESENTS :ITALIA 90 (UK) (Post Punk / Art Punk)
Italia 90 are back. Once a quartet, now a trio, the band are returning to the live scene with an altered line up and a fresh setlist.
Their new songs, building on the success of debut album, Living Human Treasure (released in January 2023), push the group into less familiar territories – at some points more melodic and at others much darker. It’s all underpinned by the familiar tightness and precision, honed over decades of friendship, that provide the foundations for Italia 90’s sound.
The band have toured extensively across the UK and Europe, playing highly-acclaimed sets at festivals such as Great Escape (UK), MIL, Milhões de Festa (both Portugal), LE Guess Who, Left of the Dial (both Netherlands) and Fuzz Fest (Czechia). They have received critical praise from numerous publications, including DIY Magazine, The Quietus, The Guardian and So Young (UK), Rumore and L’Espresso (Italy), Mowno and Sound of Violence (France) and Goûte Mes Disques (Belgium).
After a year away from the scene – a time for reflection and procreation – the band are primed to re-emerge, hungrier and sharper than ever.
VAAG (BE) (Post Punk)
VAAG is a (post)punk / no wave outfit out of Kortrijk/Ghent, consisting of 4 friends with a long background in hardcore & punk and who have been playing in various bands (such as HAEMERS, HITCH, VVOVNDS, HESSIAN and SUPERGENIUS to name a few).
They started the band from a common love for all things 80ies postpunk, bleak UK Punk and OI! and New/No wave …. We’d like to think we’re putting the PUNK back in POSTPUNK. ;-)
THE RATS (BE) (Post Punk)
Ghent-based post-punk outfit The Rats released their debut EP on a Friday the 13th, making it clear they do not care for superstition. Nor do they embrace monotony — Disco To Disco is a distinctly versatile EP. The five tracks are bound to resonate with fans of today’s post-punk revival scene (IDLES, Shame, Italia 90), while still paying tribute to pioneers of the genre like Gang Of Four, Wire and PiL, a band The Rats opened for at a packed Concertzaal De Vooruit in 2023.
