The afternoon will feature a screening of Dear Othermother, a film by Liverpool-born director Amber Akaunu, followed by a panel discussion exploring motherhood, identity, community care and collective parenting, friendship and support systems.

The panel will feature Aisha Nantanda and Audrey Akande (Raising Me and Mine Podcast) Azena Baxter (participant in Dear Othermother) and Jendella Benson (Black Ballad's Head of Editorial).

Following the screening and discussion, you're invited to continue the conversation over drinks in the Genesis Cinema bar.

Dear Othermother (Dir. Amber Akaunu, 2025) is a short documentary celebrating friendship, single motherhood and chosen family in Liverpool 8 through letter writing, honest conversation and retrospective walks.

Dear Othermother was commissioned and exhibited as part of Liverpool Biennial 2025, and made with funding from BFI Doc Society.
