This talk by curator Casey Eichhorn will explore the history, programs, and collections of the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass, home to the world’s largest and most representative collection of glass paperweights on public display, including antique millefiori treasures designed by French glass houses and contemporary lamp-worked paperweights resembling real biological specimens. The museum also focuses on building its holding of contemporary studio glass.
The core of the museum’s collection is the paperweight collection amassed by Evangeline Bergstrom, who was captivated as a young child by the beautiful patterns and colors of a glass paperweight owned by her grandmother. Since 2011, the Neenah, Wisconsin-based museum has increased its holding of contemporary studio glass, now boasting a regular-exhibition schedule and a permanent collection of more than 300 works by artists including Anna Boothe and Nancy Cohen, Michael “Mick” Mellahn, and John Littleton, Kate Vogel, and Harvey Littleton.
