It Came From Bakersfield!

The Bakersfield Sound Revue, aka The Palomino Riders, features Cody Bryant, JayDee Maness, Skip Edwards, Johnny Palmer and Peter Freiberger, and replaces the canceled Palomino documentary.
The phrase “It Came From Bakersfield” is a nod to the original Bakersfield sound that emerged in the mid-to-late 1950s in Bakersfield, Calif.
This compelling music was a raw, electric alternative to the slick Nashville sound, blending honky-tonk, rockabilly and Western swing with twangy Telecaster guitars, driving backbeats and barroom storytelling.
Buck Owens and Merle Haggard became the genre’s most successful voices, backed by the Buckaroos and The Strangers respectively. Wynn Stewart pioneered the style with electric instrumentation and backbeats. Other notable figures include Tommy Collins, Red Simpson, and Dick Curless, who wrote songs for Owens and Haggard.
The Bakersfield sound revived honky-tonk in the 1960s. It influenced both the outlaw country and progressive country movements. It inspired future country rock and current genre-blending artists.
Today, the Bakersfield sound is celebrated in the work of neo-traditionalists who keep its spirit alive.

DETAILS ABOUT THE TRIBUTE:
IT was born in the honky tonks of Bakersfield and grew up in the studios of Capitol Records Hollywood. IT spent its evening and off times at a honky tonk on Lankershim Blvd. in North Hollywood called the Palomino Club.
IT was the Bakersfield Sound. As alive today as ever. – Windsor Records
The Band:
JayDee Maness – A steel guitar wizard with a recognizable blazing style all his own, a legend in the world of steel. It would be easier to name who he has NOT played with! Among hundreds of accomplishments, he was also in the house band at the Palomino club in its heyday. He was in the Buck Owens band (and on Hee Haw but don’t tell him we told you). And he danced in a Ray Stevens video, but that’s another story. You didn’t hear that from us either. He is a musician's musician.
Skip Edwards – Like Jaydee,he was in the Palomino house band and has played with so many artists in the studio (and out) it would take a dozen press releases just to scratch the surface. He toured with Dwight Yoakam, and is the still the right-hand man of Yoakam’s hit producer Pete Anderson.
Johnny Palmer – Johnny Rivers, Three Bad Jacks, Ronnie Hawkins, Wanda Jackson and on and on. Like most people on this bill he’s played so many gigs with so many artists it’s all a blur. And those Ludwig drums he plays? They weren’t vintage when he bought them, as he likes to say.
Peter Freiberger – Another over-achiever over-gigger. Bonnie Raitt, Bobby Vinton, Aretha Franklin, Tom Scott, Yvonne Elliman, Barbi Benton on the Hee Haw reunion show, Diana Ross, Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand, Delbert McClinton, Jack Mack & the Heart Attack, Albert Lee. That’s it - we’re stopping there - hand cramps from all this typing.
Cody of Thee West – A Whittier native who slipped in underage to many a honky tonk - including the Palomino Club. Steady gigs at Disneyland, Knott’s and Universal Studios. Started playing honky tonks as soon as possible after moving to Colorado. Bought his first Telecaster in the beautiful Fontana home of Loretta’s Truckstop Bar, a renowned country spot in the Inland Empire. Plays several instruments, was a banjo champ, and actually owned part of legendary Viva Cantina after being the house band there for many years. Produced an album for Bakersfield buddy Red Simpson called Ethel's Corral.
