"Dental implants replace missing teeth in at least 100 million people, yet over one million implants fail every year due to peri-implantitis, a bacterially induced inflammatory disease. Our ability to treat peri-implantitis is hampered by a paucity of information on the impact of events that occur before, during and after implant surgery on the health of the implant. In this presentation, we will discuss the latest research in the etiology and pathogenesis implant disease and investigate the systemic, environmental and local factors that can increase risk for peri-implant diseases, and discuss the importance of case selection in treatment planning."
