Film Synopsis

Dear Mother is a 2023 experimental film directed by Sk Shuvo Shadique, shot in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) of Bangladesh, and lead by a Mru cast. Mru are one of the Indigenous people of the CHT, facing repression by the Bangladeshi state. The film is mostly in the Mru language, to the exception of one scene in Bangla.

Through the story of Damra, a young Mru girl trying to make sense of the absence of her mother whom she believes lives beyond one of the hills, the film addresses themes of Indigenous resistance and post-colonial nationalism.
