Topic: "Shared Responsibility, Shared Risk: Modernizing Cloud, SaaS, and Third-Party Auditing"

Cloud, SaaS, and third-party technology environments have evolved faster than many audit programs. Auditors may over-rely on SOC, HITRUST, other Compliance reports, treat SaaS solely as “vendor managed,” apply legacy change-management testing, or overlook client responsibilities for access, configuration, monitoring, and resilience. This discussion will explore where traditional audit approaches fall short and present some practical steps for mapping shared responsibilities and evaluating SaaS and vendors holistically.

Leslie Dawson Bio:

Leslie Dawson is a Senior Manager in PwC’s Digital Assurance and Transparency practice, with 14 years of experience specializing in IT audit services, SOC reporting, HITRUST assessments, and third-party risk. Leslie is a Kentucky-licensed CPA, a CISA, and HITRUST CCSFP, who is passionate about helping his clients move beyond checklist compliance and build assurance approaches to help address technological transformations. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking with his wife, playing outside with his two children and dog, and snowboarding.

Nick Wilson Bio:

Nick Wilson is a Senior Manager in PwC’s Digital Assurance and Transparency practice, with more than thirteen years of experience at PwC, specializing in SOC 1 and SOC 2 examinations and IT audit services. He helps organizations across a variety of industries evaluate controls, strengthen governance and risk management practices, and support their regulatory and compliance objectives. Nick is a Certified Public Accountant and earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a minor in Computer Information Systems from the University of Louisville. Outside of work, he lives in Union, Kentucky, with his wife, two children, and dog.
