About this Event

2024 represents 350 years since Isaac Watts, the dissenting minister, hymnist, and logician, was born. During his lifetime and beyond, Watts garnered a reputation as one of the leading nonconformist voices in the British Atlantic world. Through his hymns, sermons, theological and philosophical texts, and correspondence, Watts was a significant influence upon the emergence of Evangelicalism as he drew upon the Reformed tradition while cautiously embracing elements of early Enlightenment thinking. The British Nonconformity in the Long Eighteenth Century work group, under the Host: British Nonconformity in the Long Eighteenth Century Working Group (under the auspecies of American Society of Church History), welcome 20-minute papers that consider elements of Watts’ life, context, thought, and legacy. We also welcome papers that consider the aims of the study group more broadly.

Abstracts of up to 250 words should be submitted to Dr. B.A. Song ([email protected]) by June 1, 2024.

This event is co-sponsored by the American Society of Church History and the Andrew Fuller Centre for Baptist Studies.
