Learn tips and techniques for understanding and supporting LGBTQ+ youth and families through national data and credible resources.
About this Event

Presented by staff from Public Health Dayton-Montgomery County.

LGBTQ+ youth, according to multiple sources, consistently and disproportionately experience marginalization and health inequities at higher rates as compared to their cis/het counterparts. In fact, Q+ youth identify 4xs higher ACES and the rate of attempting suicide among Q+ teens is more than twice the rate of suicide attempts among all US teens.

When adding other identities such as race, ethnicity, abilities, and socio-economic factors, health disparity’s data increases even more.

How do we effect the societal and relationship challenges that Q+ young people and their families face so that trauma-informed care and resiliency building skills can be eclipsed by thriving?

We will explore strategies, frameworks, and approaches for including Q+ youth in curricula, classroom, and community programming a new narrative of thriving can be achieved. This professional development opportunity will offer contemporary scholarship, national data, and credible resources as well as tips and techniques for understanding and supporting LGBTQ+ youth and families. Participants will hear from experienced educators who provide direct prevention services in the community and teach in various types of learning spaces. Participants are encouraged to evolve the conversation, bring comments, questions, and concerns so that we can fully explore the benefits of purposeful inclusion for Q+ youth and families.
