Indulge in an afternoon of 19th-century piano trios with acclaimed Sydney-based cellist Christopher Pidcock, joined by the Irwin Street Collective Artistic Directors Shaun Lee-Chen and Cecilia Sun. Experience Clara Schumann’s poignant and lyrical Trio in G minor performed on period instruments, including a replica of a 19th-century fortepiano, reminiscent of the instrument gifted to Clara by renowned maker Conrad Graf as a wedding present, plus Mendelssohn's Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49Christopher Pidcock is a cellist who equally enjoys performing on historical and contemporary instruments, exploring composer and performer relationships, embodiment theory, and fosters the return of the improvising classical musician.
Christopher is the founder of the regular concert series Opus Now, which draws together historical performance, world indigenous music, and contemporary music in a single concert.
His current research focus is on the continuum of performance practices throughout the 19th century, by studying evidence from early recordings and written texts. Christopher’s research attempts to demonstrate a performance of Beethoven’s Opus 102 Sonatas for Piano and Cello that are in a style that Beethoven might have expected to hear.
