Die schwedische Jazzsängerin Irma Neumüller widmet sich an diesem Abend der legendären Carmen McRae und lässt sich dabei von deren ikonischem Live-Album Live at Sugar Hill, San Francisco aus dem Jahr 1963 inspirieren. Mit prägnanter Phrasierung, tiefem Swing und emotionaler Ausdruckskraft prägte McRae den Vocal Jazz wie kaum eine andere - und genau dieser Geist wird im B-Flat gefeiert. Mit gerade einmal 25 Jahren zählt Irma Neumüller bereits zu den vielversprechendsten Stimmen des europäischen Jazz. Nach ihrem vielbeachteten Debütalbum Introducing Irma Neumüller (Naxos/Prophone, 2024), das von der Fachpresse für seine gesangliche Brillanz und kompositorische Tiefe gelobt wurde, folgten zahlreiche Auszeichnungen: Sie wurde zur „Jungen schwedischen Solistin 2023“ gekürt, erhielt im Jahr 2024 das in Schweden renommierte Sandviken Big Band-Stipendium und wurde 2025 in das hochangesehene Bundesjazzorchester (BuJazzO) aufgenommen. Im selben Jahr gewann sie außerdem den ersten Preis bei den Gesobau Jazz & Soul Awards. Derzeit lebt sie in Berlin und studiert am renommierten Jazz-Institut Berlin. Mit Respekt, eigener Persönlichkeit und tiefem Gespür für Swing bringt Irma das zeitlose Repertoire von Carmen McRae in die Gegenwart - nicht als bloße Nachahmung, sondern als persönliche Interpretation.
This evening, Swedish jazz singer Irma Neumüller pays tribute to the legendary Carmen McRae, drawing inspiration from her iconic 1963 live album Live at Sugar Hill, San Francisco. With her distinctive phrasing, deep swing and emotional expressiveness, McRae shaped vocal jazz like no other – and it is precisely this spirit that will be celebrated at the B-Flat. At just 25 years of age, Irma Neumüller is already considered one of the most promising voices in European jazz. Her highly acclaimed debut album Introducing Irma Neumüller (Naxos/Prophone, 2024), which was praised by the specialist press for its vocal brilliance and compositional depth, was followed by numerous accolades: She was named ‘Young Swedish Soloist of 2023’, received the prestigious Sandviken Big Band Scholarship in Sweden in 2024, and was accepted into the highly regarded Bundesjazzorchester (BuJazzO) in 2025. In the same year, she also won first prize at the Gesobau Jazz & Soul Awards. She currently lives in Berlin and studies at the renowned Jazz-Institut Berlin.
