About this Event
Irish Genealogy Day with the Ulster Historical Foundation
We are thrilled to announce that the Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will host the Ulster Historical Foundation on March 14 as part of their 2025 US Tour. This is the only stop in the midwest and covers a full day consisting of dedicated one-to-one research consultations and a 4-hour workshop covering all of Ireland (32 counties) and challenges tracing Irish Ancestors.
This is an in-person only event and will not be recorded. Advanced registration is strongly recommended as spots are limited. No on-site registration.
Registration via Eventbrite covers the workshop only! Research consultations are organized directly with UHF.
Workshop
This workshop is for beginners and seasoned genealogists alike and covers the basics (for those new to Irish genealogy), guidance and research tips on utilizing obscure and unusual archival sources for 17th- and 18th century research.
Topics for 2025 include:
- Introduction to Irish and Scots-Irish Family History Research
- Getting the most out of Griffith’s Valuation
- Using printed sources for Irish family history: Directories, newspapers and more
- Using the Registry of Deeds: an important source for 18th century research
- The Irish Poor Law and local government records including workhouse registers
- Solving Your Brick Walls – interactive session for additional questions
The workshop will be hosted in the Walmart Foundation Community Room within the Bentonville Public Library. Doors open at 11:30am.
Research Consultations
A limited number of opportunities for private consultations are available (first-come basis) at additional cost payable directly to UHF. Each consultation lasts 30 minutes (20 minutes + 10 minutes turnaround).
During the consultation, you will receive research advice and guidance from a professional genealogist who will use their Irish family history knowledge and archival experience to help solve your family tree puzzles. A consultation is suitable for both the beginner needing guidance on how/where to start and the more experienced researcher who has come up against a “brick wall” in their research.
The staff’s advisory service covers the whole island of Ireland, so whether you are researching ancestors from the Beara Peninsula, Co. Cork or Rathlin Island, Co. Antrim, they can try to assist you with your research.
Reservations must be made directly with The Ulster Historical Foundation here.
