Irish at Heart

Ireland is not only very proud of its diaspora and their achievements, but also its growing affinity diaspora - those without a direct family or personal connection to Ireland but with a passion for and interest in our country and our culture. It is an attachment, which has not always been appreciated – in some ways it is an unrequited love story and it is one, which cannot be taken for granted. Therefore, we want to highlight the contributions that the Germany-based affinity diaspora makes to Ireland’s reputation abroad and find out more about their personal stories of becoming ambassadors for Ireland. We want to hear what sparked their interest in the country, how it affects their day-to-day lives and what fascinates them about Irish culture.

We will speak to representatives of Conradh na Gaeilge Berlin, Berlin GAA, a German Irish trad musician and an Irish dancing teacher and performer. We will bring them together in a panel discussion, which will be followed by musical and dance performances and perhaps some surprises.
