All are welcome to join us as we welcome this year's Focus on Faith speaker is Dr. Brad Young, Ph.D. who studied at Hebrew University of Jerusalem under David Flusser, a renowned Israeli professor of Early Christianity and Judaism of the Second Temple Period. He is the founder and President of the Gospel Research Foundation, an internationally recognized authority on the comparative study of the Gospel and rabbinic parables, and the author of numerous books, including Jesus, the Jewish Theologian; Meet the Rabbis, Rabbinic Thought and the Teachings of Jesus; and The Parables, Jewish Tradition and Christian Interpretation.We welcome Dr. Young on Sunday, October 20 to speak at Worship and Sunday School in the Sanctuary.
Schedule of events:
- 8:45 & 11 am Worship Services in the Sanctuary: The Faith of Jesus or the Faith in Jesus: The Lord’s Prayer in its Jewish Context
- 10 am Sunday School Class in the Sanctuary: Parables of Faith, Reconciliation, and Healing: Jesus' First Century Jewish Message to the Twenty-First Century Christian Church
- Reception in the Parlor following 11 am worship
In preparation for this guest speaker, join IPC on Sundays, Sept. 8 through Nov. 17 at 10 am in Room 306 for a Sunday School class led by Rabbi Adam M. Wright of Temple Emanu-El.
During this class, "Rabbinic Thought and Literature and the Teachings of Jesus", attendees will:
- Gain insight into Jewish communities during the late Second Temple period
- Explore Jewish-Christian Connections
- Uncover parallels between Jewish parables and Christian teachings
- Examine and question the notion of Jew Hatred in the New Testament
- Explore the evolution of Jewish leadership
