ShadowDance was founded in 2016 by dancers and choreographers Julia Bengtsson and Abby Marchesseault.

Using the universal joy of children's stories, the company's annually growing repertory of shadowplay works tackle topics such as loneliness, empathy, and selflessness. These have been presented throughout New York City at venues including New York Presbyterian Hospital, Brooklyn Bridge Dance Festival, United Palace, Inwood Art Works' Broadway Gallery and Higher Ground Festival. In 2020 they were joined by music director Paul Shipper and violinist Dongmyung Ahn.

The creation of ShadowDance presents: Light Tales was made possible in part with public funds from Creative Engagement, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by LMCC.

This performance was made possible by New York City Artist Corps.

Inwood Art Works mission is to create and curate professional performing and visual arts in Inwood and its surrounding community.
