The APL Karate Group cordially invites YOU to compete in our inaugural open karate tournement. This is a low-key, low-cost event for adults (age 20 or older) working for or afflicated with JHU/APL and/or D&S Studios.
The four event categories are kata, weapons, sparring, and breaking.
Kata: Traditional (1-person) and Sychronized (3-person).
Weapons: Traditional (1-person) and Sychronized (2-person).
Sparring: Zero Contact (3-steps, 90 seconds, 1-on-1), Contact (freestyle, 90 secs, 1-on-1), and Extreme Contact (freestyle, 3x60 seconds, 2-on-1)
Breaking: Techical (1/4" or 1/2" boards) and Power (1" boards)
For synchronized katas, you may bring your own team or be elected to be assigned to a 2 or 3-person team when you register. Teams will be randomly assigned based upon experience level.
When registering, please indicate your belt or experience level as a beginner, intermediate, or advanced martial artist.
COST - $20
The cost is $20 ($17.02 price + $2.98 fee) for any number of divisions across all categories in which you qualify. Esssentially, beginners and intermediates are limited to no-contact sparring (however, all must wear protective gear which will be available to borrow as needed). Examples of divisions for each level are below.
As a beginner (no, white, yellow, or orange), you may compete in traditional kata (1-person), sparring (no contact) and/or technical breaking (1/4" boards). This would be up to 3 divsions across 3 categories.
As an intermediate (green to purple), you may compete in traditional kata (1-person), team traditional kata (3-person), sparring (no contact), and/or technical/power breaking (1/2" or 1" boards). This would be up to 4 divisions across 3 catogeries.
As an advanced (red, brown, black), you may compete in traditional kata (1-person), weapons kata (1-person), team traditional kata (3-person), team weapons kata (2-person), contact sparring (1-on-1), extreme contact sparring (2-on-1), and power breaking (1" boards). This would be up to 7 divisions across 4 categories.
There is no refund policy; however, you may give your ticket to another person. Just email the organizers (email [email protected] or text 301-549-8199) in advance if you will be unable to attend and send your replacements contact information.
