Flexibility or strength? Why not have both, and level-up your practice? Join June and Joyce for a comprehensive, balanced (and fun!) workshop combining inversions, backbends and arm balances. We’ll break down the asanas, techniques, alignment and transistions needed to find both strength and flexibility in your practice. Expect to take your asanas to the next level with warm-ups, wall work, conditioning, stretching and more to help prevent injuries and deepen your practice.Module 1: Inversions
Core and shoulder strengthening essentials to find your balance
Wall exercises to help you gain confidence and build endurance
Leave the wall behind – go upside down without wall support
Key alignment of bound headstand, tripod headstand, forearm stand, handstand (preparation of forearm stands and handstands and full inversions will be included as options)
Module 2: Arm balances
Core, shoulder and wrist strengthening essentials to stabilise your arm balances
Chaturanga-based arm balances, including crow, side crow, Koundinyasana I & II, eight angle, one-legged crow
Forearm-based arm balances, including baby crow
Funky-based arm balances
Arm-balance transitions
Module 3: Backbends
Preparing your shoulders, spine, hip flexors and quadriceps for painless, healthier and deeper backbends
Classic backbends like cobra, camel, wheel, bow, and more (as well as their variations)
Backbend transitions (including dropping back to and standing up from wheel)
Module 4: Transitioning between inversions & arm balances
Deconstructing transitions between tripod headstand (with the option of handstand) and Chaturanga-based arm balances
Deconstructing the transition of baby crow to and from Pincha Payurasana
Module 5: Transitioning between inversions & backbends
Deconstructing the scorpion pose
“Tic Toc”: Dropping back and flipping back from inversions with and without wall support
We value the significance of establishing a strong basis to enhance your practice and expand your flexibility without experiencing any pain or injuries. While students have the flexibility to choose which module(s) to attend, we strongly suggest that they attend Modules 1 and 2 if they plan to take Module 4; and Modules 1 and 3 if they plan to take Module 5. Investing in these modules will provide a solid foundation for the growth and development of your yoga practice.
This workshop is suitable for those who are interested in doing inversions without wall support, as well as more experienced practitioners who are looking to refine and strengthen their practice.
Target students: Mixed levels. Please note that while multi-level options will be offered, the prerequisite for this workshop is that students should be able to do a headstand with wall support for Modules 1, 4 and 5.
