Learn to identify & remove invasive Lesser Celandine.
Invasive species cause an incredible amount of damage both economically & environmentally, and usually are spread unknowingly. In an effort to help slow the spread of invasive species WVLT will be offering opportunities to our community to learn how to indentify, remove & reuse invasive species.
Our first Invasive species program of the season will focus on invasive Lesser Celandine. Lesser Celandine is an invasive species that forms dense clusters, blocking out other species from growing. The spring ephemeral plant dies off after flowering, leaving a bare spot that often remains bare, but is also host to other invasive species such as stiltgrass. Lesser celandine is often found along river banks as their builbils can get deposited in new locations following flood events. In this program you will learn how to identify, remove, and dispose of lesser celandine to help prevent it from spreading further.
Meet in the Municipal Lot on Huguenot street. Note that the lower parking lot by the gardens for nutrition is reserved for people tending to their garden plots. We will walk down to the Nyquist Harcourt Wildlife Sanctuary for the program.
Wear: clothes that can get dirty, sturdy shoes, and work gloves.
Bring: Water and bug spray.
