Introduction to Traditional British Witchcraft
About this Event
Real Witchcraft
Cut through the fluff, question the myths, and explore what witchcraft actually looks like in practice.
Witchcraft has become increasingly visible in books, social media and popular culture — but with that has come a huge amount of conflicting information, modern invention and ideas presented as ancient tradition.
This workshop is an opportunity to explore witchcraft with someone who has 40 years of practical experience, looking beyond the aesthetic and asking some more useful questions:
What has a genuine historical or traditional basis? What is modern practice? What is personal belief or intention? And what actually makes something witchcraft?
During the workshop we’ll explore:
- What witchcraft is — and what it isn’t
- The difference between witchcraft, Wicca, Paganism and folk magic
- Traditional practice versus modern interpretations
- What we can genuinely trace historically and what is much more recent
- Why intention matters — but why intention alone isn’t the whole of magical practice
- The role of ritual, symbolism, altered states, energy and focused awareness
- Spells, charms and magical tools — what they are actually doing within a working
- Gods, spirits, ancestors and nature within different approaches to witchcraft
- Protection, cleansing, grounding and magical boundaries
- The difference between learning a technique and simply copying something from a book or social-media post
- How to develop a witchcraft practice that is meaningful rather than just collecting correspondences, crystals and ingredients
There will also be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and challenge some of the common claims surrounding modern witchcraft.
This is not about telling you there is only one correct way to be a witch. Witchcraft has always varied between people, places and traditions. Instead, we’ll look at where practices come from, why they are used and how to distinguish historical tradition, established magical technique, personal experience and modern invention.
Whether you are completely new to witchcraft or have been practising for years, this workshop is designed to help you look beneath the surface and develop a more informed, practical and confident understanding of the Craft.
No previous experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to question what you think you already know.
