Experience the ancient Japanese art of kintsugi or golden joinery by crafting a piece of wearable art using recycled pottery.Over the course of this three hour workshop you will learn the basics of kintsugi by employing modern techniques to create a unique and ready to wear piece of jewellery. Each piece is gift boxed and presented on a stainless steel chain or matching adjustable cord.
Donna, a student of Japanese art and culture and owner of Kintsugi Fusion, will guide you through the process step-by-step while also sharing the history and philosophy of kintsugi and its everyday application. More than just a form of art, kintsugi teaches us to view life through a different lens – one where broken things are seen as more precious; their cracks and flaws celebrated and not hidden away.
Whether you are interested in Japanese art, or if you just want to create a one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery, this is a perfect introduction to kintsugi. You will also have the opportunity to sample genuine matcha tea prepared the traditional Japanese way and homemade mochi (Japanese sweet treats).
There will be a variety of ceramic pieces for you to choose from – but feel free to bring along your own much loved broken pottery. Donna will be happy to assess its suitability and advise you.
Traditionally, kintsugi uses golden joinery but if you would prefer to use silver, please let us know.
Cost £50 to include refreshments.
Free parking.
