DESCRIPTION
During the twentieth century Jesuit theologian and scientist developed an innovative vision of spirituality. In this introductory course we will explore his foundational themes with his emphasis of finding God in all things especially in a "luminous world", his emphasis on the Body of Christ, and Christ in the Eucharist as well as the implications of his thought for our prayer, our care of the environment and the universality of evolution. This course will incorporate lecture, discussion, suggested readings and spiritual exercises meant to integrate thought and practice.

PRESENTER
Deborah Hanus, D.Min., a teacher and spiritual director, invites and encourages others to set out on an adventure of growing in ever deeper love, union and commitment to God and others through the theological vision and prayer of Teilhard de Chardin. Deborah has served as teacher, spiritual director and founder of the Center for Spiritual Growth and the Contemplative Life (1992-2016) for almost fifty years. While Teilhard’s insight may be complex and profound it is of a quality that can provide the Church with the deep-down freshness of heart, mind and soul so necessary for today’s church that can once again “set the world on fire.” (Teilhard).
Deborah teaches with the whole person in mind. Teilhard, as mystic and poet, encourages a similar response in us. An art docent at the San Antonio Museum, Deborah incorporates art and poetry in her own teaching. This course will emphasize a classroom experience which includes personal response, interactive style and integration of material with individual spiritual exercises. The aim of the presentations is to provide contemporary men and women of faith that continues to be open to transformation by the Holy Spirit with joy and hope.
Deborah earned a Doctor of Ministry from the Graduate Theological Foundation, Masters degree from Oblate and The University of Texas at San Antonio, and a B.A. in English from The University of Texas at Austin. Connect with her at [email protected]
