About this Event

The Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA) invites you to join us for an in-person workshop led by Josefina Fernandez Moran at Longwood Art Gallery @ Hostos.

In this workshop, students will learn the basic concepts of still photography using a camera in manual mode. Students will discuss the basic elements of composition to add visual strength to images and observe light and its impact on a photograph.

Students will learn:

  • How to use a camera in its basic functions including automatic-semi and automatic-manual.
  • The basics of exposure including elements like ISO, shutter speed, and aperture and the basic exposure triangle which will allow participants to use the camera in manual mode.
  • Different approaches to photography and composition, aesthetic elements, and technical choices.

During the event, students will then put the teachings into practice by photographing each other and the surrounding.

As part of the Youth Engagement Program, this free workshop welcomes participants between the ages of 11-24. Light refreshments and snacks will be served.
