About this Event
A hands-on introduction to Python programming for environmental sciences.
What?
- This 3-day workshop, organised by Cefas and ARIES DTP, will give a hands-on introduction to the Python programming language.
- It will start with basics of Python scripting and then focus on analysis and visualisation of data formats commonly used in environmental sciences.
- No previous Python experience is required!
When?
This course will run over 3 days:
- Monday 8th of June - Wednesday 10th of June
Where?
The course will be held in room ZICER 02.01, University of East Anglia, Norwich.
Topics
- Python basics and programming environment
- Core scientific libraries: numpy, scipy, pandas
- Use of AI to auxiliate in creating code
- Simple visualisation in matplotlib
- Plotting data on maps
- Working with environmental sciences data formats

Eligibility
The course is open to both staff and students at UEA (including ARIES DTP students), as well as Cefas staff. Please select the relevant ticket for your organisation.
Cost
The course is free for ARIES DTP and Cefas participants.
There may be a small fee for non-ARIES participants from UEA. This is not required at time of registration. However, you will be contacted to confirm costs and arrange payment before the event.
Travel to UEA?
UEA is accessible by both car and public transport.
For those not based as UEA (e.g., ARIES students and Cefas staff), funds should be available to support travel. Please contact your supervisor or line manager to discuss options.
