This hands-on short course, delivered by the Centre for Policy Futures (CPF) at UQ, equips policy and research professionals with practical skills in participatory future scenario methods — a powerful, evidence-based approach to collaborative policy design and stakeholder engagement.

Over two intensive days, you will:

• Build foundational knowledge in systems thinking, futures thinking and scenario planning
• Explore how participatory scenarios can bring diverse voices — including communities often absent from formal decision-making — into the policy process
• Practise co-creating future narratives using real-world tools and case studies from around the globe
• Translate collaboratively developed scenarios into polished policy outputs, including ministerial briefs and formal communications

This course directly addresses the OECD-identified skills gap in evidence-informed policymaking, with a distinctive focus on the interpersonal, relational, and communication capabilities that methodology-heavy programs often overlook.

Research and policy officers in government, NGOs and the private sector who want to make better use of evidence-based future narratives in policy design and stakeholder engagement.
