This course is the perfect starting point for beginners or anyone curious about oil painting! Each week, Suzon will guide you through a variety of subjects and techniques, helping you build confidence and create beautiful, finished paintings with this versatile medium.
Suzon is a figurative artist working primarily in oils. Passionate about sharing their knowledge, they have a special affinity for colouran here to help you find your personal artistic voice while growing your confidence in oils. Set in a relaxed and supportive environment, this course is ideal for both beginners and those wanting to deepen their skills.
I cannot wait to paint together and make sure you fall in love with the medium a little more at each session, and develop ways to strengthen your practice and observation skills.
Throughout the course, we'll be working from a still life and the studio space itself. If you desire, I'm inviting you to bring objects dear to your heart to paint from (a book, a piece of jewellery, an amulet...). There is always something special about painting familiar subjects, and it tends to make focusing easier. Mirrors are welcome too if you feel drawn to self-portraiture. We'll also provide a range of objects to choose from so don't worry at all if nothing comes to mind.
Here's a quick overview of our six weeks together, in case like me, you like starting to think of the sessions before they've even started!
Week 1: Oil painting basics & monochrome (thinking about tone and shapes)
Week 2: introducing colours, painting with a limited colour palette
Week 3: more on colour theory
Week 4: mark making and atmosphere
Week 5: planning a 2 week long painting, personal project week 1/2 (opportunity to explore genres such as portrait, landscape, painting from memory...)
Week 6: layering and resolving, personal project week 2/2
