2-hour introductory workshop on Institutional Ethnography, an interdisciplinary feminist approach to researching for social change.
About this Event

This 2-hour introductory workshop to Institutional Ethnography - an interdisciplinary feminist approach to researching for social change - is aimed at PhD students, academics, and third-sector workers interested in doing or supporting research for social change.

Dr Órla Meadhbh Murray (Sociology, Northumbria University Newcastle) and Dr Alicja Palęcka (Sociology, University of Warsaw, Poland) will provide a short introduction to what Institutional Ethnography is and how it works followed by a discussion about how to do research for social change in Newcastle. Our focus will be on doing Institutional Ethnography as a form of 'citizen social science' on institutions from below. We will also discuss the establishment of a Northumbria University-based Institutional Ethnography network to support ongoing training and research using this approach and ask for suggestions for future events.

This is an in-person only event at ReCoCo (1 Carliol Square, Newcastle NE1 6UF) - for detailed explanation on how to get to ReCoCo see here. ReCoCo is a wheelchair accessible building with two lifts and accessible toilets on each floor. It will be a relaxed and friendly space and attendees will be able to take breaks and come and go as they need. Please contact Órla Meadhbh Murray - [email protected] - if you have any questions about the event, access requirements, or if you are unable to attend but wish to be informed about future similar events.

Light lunch, snacks, and tea/coffee will be provided.

This event has been funded by Northumbria University Newcastle's Faculty of Society and Culture Interdisciplinary Research Funding Grant.
